Swiss lakes are known for nature, clear water, and local fish. However, in recent years, one term has appeared more and more frequently when it comes to water and fish: PFAS.
These so-called "forever chemicals" can persist in the environment for decades and enter lakes and rivers through various pathways. Particularly problematic: they can also accumulate in the food chain – and thus in fish.
For many consumers, this raises an important question:
How safe is fish from open waters today – and are there alternatives for the future?
This is precisely the question that concerned us at LocalFish a few years ago.
The Idea Behind LocalFish
We love fish. But we wanted to produce it differently.
The reality is:
97% of the fish consumed in Switzerland is imported – often from distant countries, with long transport routes and little transparency.
At the same time, natural waters are under increasing pressure:
- Environmental substances like PFAS
- Microplastics
- Historical pollutants in the sediment
- Rising temperatures
- Overfishing
For us, it was clear:
If we truly want to produce healthy, sustainable, and local fish, we need to take a new approach.
This is how LocalFish was born.
Protected from External Influences
Our fish grow not in open waters, but in a modern closed-loop aquaculture system.
This means:
The water is permanently
- cleaned
- filtered
- biologically treated
- controlled
This creates an environment that is stable, clean, and controllable.
The decisive advantage:
Our fish are protected from external influences that can occur in natural waters – such as environmental substances, pollutant discharges, or other stresses.
100% Swiss Fish – Locally Produced
At LocalFish, not only water quality is the focus.
Our goal is to produce fish completely locally and sustainably:
- 100% Swiss production
- short transport routes
- transparent origin
- fresh fish without long import chains
- Maximum enjoyment
This not only reduces the CO₂ footprint but also ensures maximum freshness and taste.
While imported fish is often days or weeks in transit, our fish remains regional – from the water to the plate.
Sustainable Fish Production for the Future
The closed-loop system has further advantages:
- extremely low water consumption - 1 liter per kg of fish
- no pollution of lakes or rivers
- controlled feeding - no bycatch
- healthy growth conditions for the fish
This allows us to breed fish that are healthy, sustainable, and responsible – without additionally burdening natural ecosystems.
Our Claim: Better Fish for Switzerland
LocalFish is more than a fish farm.
It is our answer to a simple question:
How can fish in Switzerland be produced healthily, sustainably, transparently, and deliciously?
Our answer:
- controlled water quality
- closed-loop systems
- local production
- short distances
- full transparency
This creates fish that not only tastes good but also leaves a good feeling.
✅ LocalFish stands for:
- healthy fish
- sustainable production
- 100% Swiss origin
- transparent quality
- And that's precisely why we built this system.
So that fish from Switzerland remains a safe, sustainable, and regional choice in the future.
