Today, bodies of water are under increasing pressure. Residues from industry, agriculture, and the environment can accumulate in lakes and rivers over years and enter the food chain, eventually reaching fish. These pollution levels don't appear suddenly but are the result of long-term inputs that are difficult to control in open waters.
For LocalFish, therefore, it is clear:
Sustainable fish production requires controlled systems – not chance.
Closed instead of uncontrolled
LocalFish deliberately uses a closed-loop system . Unlike open water systems or flow-through systems, the water is continuously treated and reused instead of simply being replaced.
Biological filters break down organic matter and create stable conditions. This ensures consistently high water quality, preventing polluted water from entering natural waters or external environmental factors from affecting fish production.
That means:
- no intervention in existing ecosystems
- No discharge of wastewater
- Protection from external environmental stresses
Healthy for fish and the environment
Stable, controlled conditions are the foundation for healthy fish. At LocalFish, we consciously avoid antibiotics because prevention through good water quality, appropriate stocking densities, and low-stress conditions is our priority.
Our fish also grow up without exposure to microplastics , unlike what is increasingly common in open waters. This benefits both the health of the fish and the quality of the final product.
Responsibility also applies to feed
Sustainability for us doesn't end with water. We also take a responsible approach to animal feed:
- No bycatch from sensitive marine ecosystems
- carefully selected raw materials
- transparent and traceable origin
This reduces the pressure on wild fish stocks and avoids additional strain on the oceans.
Sustainability considered holistically
LocalFish's closed-loop system reduces water consumption, protects natural ecosystems, and makes fish production transparent. Ecological responsibility, fish health, and product quality are considered together – not pitted against each other.
Our statement
LocalFish stands for fish from a system that takes responsibility.
For clean water. For healthy fish. For the sustainable use of our resources.
Not as a promise, but as an attitude – today and in the future.
