At LocalFish, we rely on a sustainable circular system that takes equal account of the environment, animal welfare, and people. Our local fish farms operate in a resource-efficient and CO₂-neutral manner, with minimal land consumption. Through innovative water reuse and our zero-waste principle, we reduce waste to a minimum and conserve natural resources. In this way, we create real added value for nature and society – far beyond traditional fish farming.

In extreme cases, fish is considered toxic, and that simply cannot be. We clearly refrain from using antibiotics.

Heavy metals

PFAS and other heavy metals are found in our food. We therefore rely on closed indoor aquaculture systems to protect our fish from external influences.

99.5% of the water remains in the cycle

Our circular system allows us to minimise water consumption and thus conserve natural resources. Our roof is designed to collect rainwater and feed it into the cycle. This means we can operate almost entirely without fresh groundwater, which is unique worldwide.

Our own energy

We generate our own electricity thanks to our own solar systems. Our facilities are built to produce with maximum energy efficiency. We use waste heat from our processing to heat our premises and dry our animal feed. The water remains in a closed loop, thus maintaining its temperature, which means it doesn't need to be heated.

Sustainable fish feed

Conventional fish feed is often based on wild-caught fish, which pollutes the oceans and promotes bycatch. LocalFish takes a sustainable approach:

Our feed contains no catch or bycatch and is made from carefully selected side streams from other industries. With this approach, we have 0% impact on the seas and lakes.

Together with a Swiss feed manufacturer, we have developed a sustainable recipe that guarantees the highest quality – for healthy fish and an intact environment.

CO2-Neutral Production

Thanks to a highly efficient ecosystem approach and
integrated energy system where we do not have to heat a large part of the water, the energy costs are reduced. With 1.45 kgCO2 per kg of fish, we have by far the lowest CO2
consumption of all protein producers and are even higher than the
Fishing CO2-Neutral!

Usable area

For the production of 1 kg of protein, beef requires enormous amounts of land for fodder cultivation and pastures. LocalFish, in contrast, needs only a fraction of that. Thanks to our closed-loop system, we produce regional protein extremely efficiently in terms of space – without vast monocultures or unnecessary resource consumption.

Feed requirement

While traditional farm animals require several times their body weight in feed, LocalFish efficiently converts feed into high-quality protein. This means fewer raw materials, less imported feed, and significantly less burden on the environment and agriculture.

Water demand

Water is becoming increasingly valuable worldwide. That's why we rely on systems with maximum reuse. Compared to conventional meat production, LocalFish drastically reduces water consumption – and shows what sustainable protein production can look like in the future.
